Core Stability

The Core is fundamental to stability, co-ordination, movement and balance because it links the upper and lower body together. The condition of the core effects postural   alignment, strength, balance and muscle synergy.
When professionals talk about the ‘The Core’ they are referring to the inner unit which contains the diaphragm, transversus Abdominus, multifidus and pelvic floor. They all stabilise and protect the Lumbar spine, Sacrum and the Sacroliiac Joints.

The benefits of Training with a Stability ball are as follows:
To train the brain (Central Nervous System) to activate dormant muscles and wake up the fibres in the correct sequential order.
To help the muscles stay activated for longer periods of time for postural endurance and stability of joints during work or sports performance
Innate Core Activation and maintenance for organ and joint protection
Maintain stabilisation as strength demands increase and movement becomes multi directional.
Decrease the incidence of orthopaedic injury

Exercising with the ball challenges balance and stabilisation in multiple planes – something that fixed machines do not offer. It forces the body to work harder as it is an unstable surface. Working on an unstable surface increases the body’s proprioception, kinesetic response and muscle synergy. It works the skeletal, muscular and nervous system. All exercises require strength of some muscles and flexibility of others. It induces mobility and stability of joints creating a strong and functional body.
Rather than sitting on a machine which only contributes to decreased postural muscle activation, the stability ball burns calories, tones muscles and is great fun.
